A dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement which consists of an intraosseous fixture, an abutment and a crown. The root-form fixture is placed into the jawbone and the bone grows into and around the implant in a process called osseointegration. When this part of the process is complete- which takes around 4-6 months- the fabricated prosthesis is attached and the patient has a natural looking tooth that blends seamlessly with their other teeth.
Implants not only replace missing teeth, but also preserve remaining bone structures, prevent adjacent teeth and teeth of opposing jaw from shifting and affecting your chewing. Other teeth replacement options can slip or shift in your mouth, but dental implants won’t move. This makes for greater comfort and confidence while speaking or eating.
Dental implants are a great long-term investment. Unlike other options, dental implants can last for many decades with proper and correct care. Simply brush and floss daily! You should also plan on visiting your dentist every four to six months to clean your implants and check them.
Gaps in your smile can impact your confidence and leave you with a smile that looks years older than it actually is. Dental implants fill in sunken facial features, leaving you with a younger-looking and more confident smile. For determining if dental implants are the best choice for you, your dentist will begin your treatment by taking X-rays and CBCTs if needed and impressions of your teeth and jaw to determine the bone height and width, available spacing for the implant as well as the gum tissue.
Replace missing teeth with Implants.
In life, we try to avoid accidents and mishaps to the best of our ability. But as life plays its usual game, not all of us can manage to evade accidents and particularly dental accidents forever.
When these accidents happen, we might be unfortunate enough to lose one or more of our teeth. Missing teeth are not only a stark contrast to the remainder of our pearly whites, but they also have catastrophic effects on the function of our teeth and mouth. This is more than reason enough for anyone who loses any of their teeth to think of a replacement option quickly. With the advances made in the field of dentistry, it’s not difficult to get artificial teeth to replace your natural missing ones.
Dentures and implants are two of the most popular ways to replace your missing teeth. On this page, we will cover what dental implants are and what they do, We’ll discuss if you’re a good candidate for dental implants and how the overall procedure works. Dental Implant process.
Getting dental implants in Markham is not a short and quick procedure. It requires time and careful observation of the affected site for some months. The process of dental implants usually takes between 6 to 8 months. Your first visit to the dentist is for an evaluation. we will examine your mouth, gums, and oral x-rays. It’s important that you have “good quality”, and sufficient bone structure in your jaws if you’re getting dental implants. If your jaw bone is not deemed sufficient by your dentist, you will usually be advised to get other procedures such as a bone graft and such. On top of that, your gums should be free of any gum disease.
After your implant consultation, you can get to your second appointment. In this session, you will have a metal screw inserted into your gums and jawbone. This screw is what we know as a dental implant. After the insertion, the metal rod is left to fuse with your bones.
The healing process for your gum and bone is between 4 to 8 months.
After your dentist has ensured the metal rod is secure in place and has the ability to support the restoration you’re going to get in the long run, the restoration will be installed. The restoration might be a crown, a bridge, or an implant-supported denture that will be placed on the Implants.
The restoration you get is designed to match the shade and color of your other teeth perfectly so there’s no reason for you to worry about the aesthetic of your smile.
Our dental implants at Mint Leaf Dental can last you for 3 decades if you take good care of them.
