Some useful Brushing and flossing tips
Our teeth and oral surfaces develop a colorless biofilm known as plaque. Plaque attracts bacteria that thrive on sugars and starches we consume daily. Acid produced by those bacteria will demineralize teeth and result in tooth decay. Plaque can irritate gums resulting in gingivitis and if not treated, periodontal disease -involving tooth-supporting structures – and possible tooth loss.
Brushing removes plaque from teeth surfaces, whereas flossing will prevent plaque from developing in between teeth and under the gum around the necks of your teeth. Both brushing and flossing are necessary for keeping your teeth and mouth clean and supporting your general well-being.

Brush your teeth at least twice daily. Do not brush too hard and use soft toothbrushes to avoid damaging your teeth and gum. Make sure to clean all surfaces of the teeth including back and front of each tooth and all biting surfaces. Brushing the tongue is crucial in removing bacteria and preventing bad breath. If brushing the tongue is too uncomfortable, try using a tongue scraper. Flossing is not hard, nor is it time consuming. Be sure to floss in between all your teeth at least once daily to protect and preserve your oral health. Tearing off a piece of floss that is comfortably long enough (about 18 inches) makes the process a lot easier. Grip the floss and gently insert it between your teeth while supporting it between two fingers. Don’t push it hard and snap it in between your teeth as this can damage your gums. Gently move the floss back and forth between two adjacent teeth until you pass the contact and then with up and down motion clean adjacent teeth surfaces one at a time including cleaning underneath the gum line. If you haven’t flossed for a while, you may notice gum bleeding. This will stop after a few sessions of flossing.
